  • Poetry in Year 5

We have some very talented children in Year 5 who love writing their own poetry in their own time. Here are just a few examples:

The Beauty of Us by DK

Differences point the world so bright,

In every shade, in every light.

Like stars that twinkle in the night,

Each one unique, a special sight.

Our voices sing in varied tones,

    Different seeds, grow different stones,

Together strong, though not the same,

In diversity we find our flame.

So celebrate what makes us true,

The colours new and colours old.

For in our differences we see,

    The beauty of humanity!

    A Dragon Poem by N-A U

My dragon has eyes as round as dinner plates,

It has sharp teeth, like daggers,

Its mouth is dark and wide, like a cave,

It has claws (which are as pointed as needles),

Its nose lets out plumes of smoke, like a chimney,

Its body is as huge as the ocean whale,

Its tail flicks from side to side like an angry cat.

It sits, silently, to catch its prey.

Why Is a Teacher in School Alone? By N-A U

The school is locked, the children gone,

But the creepy teacher wanders on,

As the daylight disappears, as the daytime fades,

As the night goes in and the darkness descends,

She stands in the classroom, as transparent as glass,

and shouts out the names of children absent in class.

The school is closed, the children all grown,

But the creepy teacher, all alone,

Puts the date on the board and moves about,

As the night draws in and the stars come out.

Between the chairs, a glow in the gloom -

and calls for silence in the noisy room...
