Are you stuck for something to do this weekend?
We are having a bit of fun in EYFS & KS1 next Thursday (21st March) with an Easter Bonnet Parade. If you and your child would like to make an Easter Bonnet at home for them to wear to school and show off then get creative this
weekend! Bring your completed hats to school on Thursday!
Did you know we have a number of clubs running at lunchtime and after school? Clubs include sports activities, cooking, reading, puppet making, running coding and keyboards. Look out for letters from teachers to book your child's space!
Wow – what a super busy week in school this week. Yesterday was world book day and we celebrated with a reading café for parents and children. The parental response and engagement was amazing, it was so lovely to see so many families enjoying sharing books and reading activities together!
The school nurse team have been in this week delivering a range of talks and activities across the school from handwashing and teeth brushing in reception to healthy life choices in year 6. We have also had visits from DECCA this week delivering assemblies to all year groups about a range of topics to help children keep themselves safe.
Parents of our Year 6 children will have received their secondary school offer letters/emails on the 1st March. Please ensure you follow the instructions carefully to accept your places. It is vital that you make sure your child has a place for secondary school.
Over the half term holiday we have been lucky enough to have some new outdoor play equipment fitted. The equipment is gym style equipment that the children can use at playtime and lunchtime. We hope the children enjoy using the new equipment as much as they did when using the old play area!
To celebrate the history of South Asia Mrs Squires has been organising some competitions and workshops for the children to complete either at home or during an after school workshop. The hard work has culminated in a wonderful exhibition of research, art work and enthusiasm from many of our children.
For many of our children it is a celebration of their own culture and heritage and for other children it was finding out new things. The exhibition will be displayed for parents to see on learning together day and we are hoping to find a more permanent space to display everyone’s hard work.
MMR Vaccines:
Parents will have seen that measles is on the rise in the West Midlands and in particular Birmingham and Sandwell. If your child has had both of their vaccines for MMR then there is almost no risk of them getting measles. If your child is not vaccinated then school would encourage you to get this done as soon as possible. You can book an appointment at an MMR pop-up clinic by calling 0121 592 1110
We have only just started the Living Streets - Walk to School initiative and already we're in the top 10 schools in Sandwell! For January we are 8th in the whole of Sandwell and 165 in the whole of England. Well done everyone, let's smash Februray.
We received this lovely thank you message from the Smethwick Mosque for our recent Foodbank collection in school.
On behalf of the FOODBANK at Smethwick JMA Trust on Windmill Lane, we just wanted to say a massive thank you and well done to all the children, staff and parents who donated recently.
It really was a huge effort and has gone down fantastically with the clients we serve.
Our food bank is vital for locals as it runs on a Sunday (whereas many food banks run midweek) so it makes it easier for many locals to collect.
We have been running for nearly 3 years now, serving on average 30 families a week and have over 170 families on our books.
We were overwhelmed with the school’s generosity and hope we can continue to work together in the future.
On behalf all our volunteers, I would like to thank you once again.
