In Personal Social and Emotional …

Over this term we will be preparing the children for their transition to Reception. This will include regular play sessions in the Reception play areas and meeting the staff in Reception. Our aim is to develop the children’s confidence in new settings and situations.

Through play and planned experiences, we will be working on building emotional resilience to enable the children to ‘bounce back’ and adapt after facing difficulty in their play or interactions.

We will be developing the children’s awareness of theirs and other’s emotions. So that they can identify when they or others are feeling happy, sad, angry...Through this, we will be exploring how our actions and words can affect how someone is feeling.

In Physical Development …

Over this term we will be preparing the children for their transition to Reception. This will include play and planned experiences to ensure the children have strength to hold and use tools for writing and scissors to cut.

In our weekly PE sessions, we will be developing ball skills to enable the children to bounce, throw, catch and kick a ball.

We will plan for more use of the Infant Playground to ensure the children are happy and confident to navigate the large space and keep themselves safe during lunch times, when they are in Reception.

In Communication & Language …

This term we will be learning a range of stories including, ‘The Little Dragon’ and ‘Over on the farm’. We will be developing the children’s ability to accurately retell events from a story.

Through story time, group time, play and planned conversations we will encourage the children to express their ideas, opinions and experiences. Planned conversation is key to ensuring the children have the necessary skills to hold a conversation with someone else. Therefore, we encourage eye contact and listening to others.

We will continually develop your children’s speech and language through providing a good model of language with high expectations. We expect and encourage the children to communicate in full sentences. You can support this at home through encouraging your child to talk using full sentences. For example, when your child says, ‘Drink’. You could reply, using a good model of language, ‘Please can I have a drink?’.

Our speech, language and understanding intervention, ‘WELLCOMM’ will continue throughout this term.

In Literacy…

The children take part in Phase 1 Phonics sessions to build up the skills necessary for hearing, saying and writing the sounds in words.

We also provide a rich range of phase 1 phonics opportunities throughout the daily routine through songs/ rhymes, stories and oral blending.

This term we will be learning a range of stories including, ‘The Little Dragon’ and ‘Over on the farm’. We will support the children in retelling and ordering events from a story. We will also be developing the children’s skill at predicting what might happen next in the story.

In preparation for Reception we will be supporting the children to write letters from their name and hear, say and write sounds in simple words.

In Understanding the World…

Our trip to Ash End farm on 08/07/22, will support the children’s understanding of life on a farm and how to care for animal. It will also help us explore our uses of animals and their products.

We have explored the life cycle of chickens and butterflies; this term we will be exploring the life cycle of a human to support the children’s understanding of growth and change.

With the Queen’s Jubilee approaching we will be exploring the lives of others and how they differ from our own lives.

In Maths…

Over this term the children, through play and planned experiences, we will be exploring measure. They will have the opportunity to explore the length, weight, capacity and size of objects. We will be teaching and encouraging the use of mathematical language to talk about what they experience.

We will revisit and consolidate working with numbers to three and move on to explore counting, writing and recognising numbers to five.

In Expressive Arts & Design…

This term we will be learning a range of stories including, ‘The Little Dragon’ and ‘Over on the farm’. The children will have the opportunity to develop their imaginative and creative play through the story based role play area.

The children will continue to have access to a wide range of materials and media to support their creative development. Through play, a rich range of resources and planned experiences we will be supporting the children to develop their confidence, imagination and creativity to role play, tell stories, sing songs, make music, move in response to music, create artwork and construct.
