  • Measles Update

    Fri 02 Feb 2024

    MMR Vaccines:

Parents will have seen that measles is on the rise in the West Midlands and in particular Birmingham and Sandwell. If your child has had both of their vaccines for MMR then there is almost no risk of them getting measles. If your child is not vaccinated then school would encourage you to get this done as soon as possible. You can book an appointment at an MMR pop-up clinic by calling 0121 592 1110

  • Walk to School - Well Done!

    Fri 02 Feb 2024

We have only just started the Living Streets - Walk to School initiative and already we're in the top 10 schools in Sandwell! For January we are 8th in the whole of Sandwell and 165 in the whole of England. Well done everyone, let's smash Februray.

  • A lovely thank you!

    Fri 02 Feb 2024

We received this lovely thank you message from the Smethwick Mosque for our recent Foodbank collection in school.

On behalf of the FOODBANK at Smethwick JMA Trust on Windmill Lane, we just wanted to say a massive thank you and well done to all the children, staff and parents who donated recently.
It really was a huge effort and has gone down fantastically with the clients we serve.

Our food bank is vital for locals as it runs on a Sunday (whereas many food banks run midweek) so it makes it easier for many locals to collect.

We have been running for nearly 3 years now, serving on average 30 families a week and have over 170 families on our books.

We were overwhelmed with the school’s generosity and hope we can continue to work together in the future.

On behalf all our volunteers, I would like to thank you once again.

  • Blue Peter Badges!

    Thu 01 Feb 2024

Last term some of our children in Key Stage 2 applied for their Blue Peter - love of reading badge. We are delighted to say that this week, some badges have arrived in school for those children. We all know how much we love a badge at Cape! Mrs Neal is now on the case to see how we can get the Blue Peter love of music badge!

  • Wear the rainbow...

    Mon 29 Jan 2024

Next week is Children’s Mental Health Awareness week. On Wednesday 7th February we invite all children to choose a colour of the rainbow and wear that colour clothing. So, have you got something red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo or violet (purple). If so, dress up in that colour. We will also be collecting £1 donations and using the money to buy some mental health awareness resources in school.

  • Film NIght

    Mon 29 Jan 2024

We are holding a film night on Tuesday 6th February 3.30pm-5.30pm. The school council asked the children in their classes to vote for their chosen film to show. There were two popular choices, The Lion King and The LEGO Batman Movie.

We have chosen to show both films so your child can choose the one they wish to watch, both films are categorised as U (a film suitable for all to watch).

The cost of film night will be £2.00 and will include a packet of crisps and cup of squash for your child. Tickets are limited and only available via ParentPay (not PayPoint) until Friday 2nd February 2024. This then allows the office staff sufficient time to produce the registers. Please make sure you choose the right film for your child to watch when booking their ticket!

Children will be taken straight to the hall and must be collected by parents at 5.30pm. Children watching ‘The Lion King’ will be dismissed from the main entrance and children watching The LEGO Batman Movie should collect from the Durban Road entrance.

  • Walk to School!

    Mon 22 Jan 2024

We are starting our walk to school campaign this week with 'Living Streets'. Is all we ask is that the children walk to school twice a week in order to win a badge each month. Don't worry if you live a long way from school and come on the bus, this counts as 'saving our planet' because you probably have to walk to the bus stop and travelling on a bus is better than in a car.

If children do come in a car, they can still earn badges if parents park a 5-10 minute walk away from school and walk the rest of the way.

  • Happy New Year!

    Thu 11 Jan 2024

Welcome back to school after the Christmas break! We hope that everyone had a restful holiday and some time with families. Please can we remind families about the importance of coming to school every day and fantastic attendance. Last term we had the most 100% attenders that we have ever had for one term (and it was also the longest term ever!). We have set the children the challenge this term of seeing if we can beat last term's results!

    Keep it up everyone!

  • A card from the king!

    Fri 22 Dec 2023

What a lovely way to end the term...

Today in school we have received a card from the King thanking us for our good wishes. The children wrote to King Charles in the summer to celebrate the Coronation. It has been wonderful to receive a response from him this morning!

  • Attendance is on the up!

    Fri 22 Dec 2023

Attendance is on the up at Cape! We have given out over 180, 100% attendance awards for the Autumn term today. In addition, we have compared autumn 2022 attendance with autumn 2023 attendance and we are up almost 3%, 92.3% (2022) and 95.1% (2023).

This is brilliant! I have set the children the challenge to get even more awards in the Spring term with even more children coming to school every day!
