  • Online Safety Week

    Fri 28 Jan 2022

Next week is online safety week in school. At Cape we don't just think about keeping safe online for one week a year, it is part of our curriculum. However, next week is a chance to focus and remind ourselves about keeping safe online, online behaviour and safe online use.

Did you know, this week a 14 year old boy and his mother were in court charged with online bullying over social media. The boy now has a criminal record and his mother has had to pay all of the victims £100 each. Whatever is said online, stays online. It becomes part of our digital footprint even if it disappears from the screen.

  • Foodbank Donations

    Thu 20 Jan 2022

A huge thank you for the foodbank donations made last Friday as part of our January blues, mental health awareness. We collected so many tins, packets, toiletries, biscuits etc that we filled an entire minibus. Your generosity will go to help local families in Smethwick.

  • COVID-19 IMPORTANT

    Wed 19 Jan 2022

RE: COVID 19 – Your help needed

We are starting to see an increase in the number of COVID cases in the community and we would just like to remind parents of the importance of regular testing. I know keeping up with the latest guidance can be tricky, but we need to work together, as a community, to try and stop the spread of the virus.

Many children are often asymptomatic against the virus. This means they often don’t show any symptoms of COVID-19 at all or symptoms are very mild. Regular lateral flow testing is really important for families to try and catch children who may not have symptoms but may be carrying the virus. Our staff are testing twice a week to help protect everyone in school as part of the government testing programme and we would encourage families to do the same. I understand lateral flow tests are hard to come by at times, but I do ask that as a community we do try and look after each other.

However, if a child or adult has any of the three main symptoms, a fever, a cough or a change to taste/smell then you must still get a PCR test. The rule changes about lateral flow testing only apply if someone is asymptomatic, no symptoms. Anybody with symptoms must still get a PCR and isolate until the result comes through. If you are in any doubt ring 119 for advice.

We have to work together to protect each other, the last thing anybody wants is to revert back to bubbles or worst case having to have class closures again. Please, please, if your child has any symptoms at all, isolate and get them tested.

  • Happy New Year!

    Thu 13 Jan 2022

Happy New Year! We do hope that everyone had a lovely Christmas holiday and that the break was both restful and enjoyable. A reminder to everyone that the guidance changed on the 11th of January regarding requirement to take a PCR test. This is only if you have no symptoms at all and you have tested positive on a lateral flow test. You must report the lateral flow test result yourself and let school know. If you do have any symptoms then you must still get a PCR test.

If you are fully vaccinated and have tested positive for COVID then you can now take a LFT test on day 6 and day 7, if both of these are negative you may resume normal duties. All of the latest guidance can be found by clicking here.
