  • June 1st Delay

    Tue 26 May 2020

Following some recently updated guidance from Sandwell Public Health regarding the wider opening of schools on June 1st we are having to look again at our staffing availability. We also need to contact families who were intending to send children back to school and identify whether they live in a house with family members who may have a medical condition following this new guidance. We will do this on Monday/Tuesday next week. As a result we will need to delay the wider reopening of school until 8th June. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, this is due to new guidance issued very recently. We will keep you fully updated and apologise again. This does not affect children of key workers or identified groups who have been coming to school during the lockdown.

  • Letter from Sandwell Local Authority Regarding the Reopening of Schools

    Mon 18 May 2020

We have received a letter today from the Local Authority which we have been asked to share with parents. You will find a copy of the letter by clicking the link below.

    https://www.capeprimary.com/covid-19-coronavirus/

We will be informing parents by the end of the week of the arrangements for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 as well as those children already attending school as part of an identified group. We have been contacting parents to get an accurate figure of the number of pupils in those year groups who will be coming back to school. As soon as we have this information we will be able to share our plan for re-opening. Parents have been asked to say yes or no to their child coming back to school on June 1st. If a parent says no to returning then we must ask that they stick to this decision for that first week. This is so we can accurately plan for staffing, room numbers and year groups in school. We will then contact parents during the week 1st of June to ask about the following week.

In order for us to ensure the school building is ready then we will be closed to pupils for half term.

  • Re-opening of schools

    Fri 15 May 2020

You will have heard on Sunday about the Government plans to re-open schools for some year groups from 1st June. The year groups mentioned are Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 as well as the current identified groups and children of key workers. Children from other year groups, including siblings of those in the designated year groups, will not be starting back to school yet. We have been working incredibly hard this week to try and plan for a phased re-opening should the Government give us the go ahead to do this on the 1st of June. We are currently contacting parents of children in those year groups to identify how many will be sending children back to school as and when we re-open.

In order to maintain the current social distancing guidance and all of the guidance for schools we are going to have to significantly reduce the number of children in each room for learning. This will of course impact on how many children of the designated year groups will be in the building at any one time. It is likely that each room will accommodate up to 8 pupils. Therefore on that basis we will not be able to have all four year groups in school all of the time.

In the first instance we will introduce one year group at a time to ensure all of our systems are in place for the safety of all children and staff. There will be different entrance and exit points for the different year groups coming into school each day and we may need to stagger the times children are brought to school and collected each day. This is to help parents to also maintain social distancing rules themselves.

This is not going to be easy, I hope to have some clearer guidance for parents early next week. As a community we must and will look after each other. I am sure plans will change as we all get used to a very new and different world. In the meantime stay safe and look after yourselves. • Latest Government Update

    Sun 10 May 2020

We are sure after the Prime Minister’s statement tonight, there are lots of questions parents have. We have lots of questions that need clarification too.

At the moment, for us in school, there is no change to the guidance. We will provide care for those parents whose work is critical to the COVID-19 response and only those that are listed in the ‘vulnerable’ group. The message is still that it is safer to stay at home.

We have not received any information to support us with the new plan to start the phased reopening of some year groups. We expect to hear further information and updates from both the DFE and LA in the coming days, which hopefully will provide some further clarification.

We need clear guidance to plan how it is possible to social distance in schools and keep our children, staff and families safe, how we will start to phase groups of children returning and what this looks like. Please be assured we will be 100% prepared for any reopening.

As always, we will keep you informed and continue to update our website with work for the children, set activities on Purple Mash & Education City and provide learning packs for those with limited computer access. We will continue to keep in contact with families and support each other. If we can be of any assistance then the school office is open daily between 8.30am and 3.30pm. There is always a teaching member of staff available to answer questions about work or find out answers to your queries. We understand there are still ongoing issues with FSM vouchers. Our staff are on hand to talk through claiming vouchers if required and if you are struggling with food during this very difficult time then please contact us to see how we can help. We can assure you that we are placing orders for e-codes for families every Monday, however it is taking up to 5 days for emails to be sent to parents. This is unfortunately beyond our control.

As the VE Day celebrations said on Friday “we’ll meet again” and until that time, stay safe and protect your wonderful families.

    Miss Baker
